Review JBL GO 3 And Many Information

Ultra-compact speakers are very popular. The Bluetooth speaker JBL GO 3 in street fashion look is also a real eye-catcher. We reveal how the portable box with strap performed in tests, what else prospective buyers can expect from the JBL GO 3 and whether the JBL GO 3 is the better choice compared to the JBL GO 2.

Conclusion on the compact JBL GO 3 Bluetooth speaker

The Bluetooth speaker JBL GO 3 is an ultra-compact and waterproof speaker that is a real eye-catcher with its street fashion look. If you are looking for a light, compact  speaker for sports, outdoors and in the bath, then this is the device for you. Thanks to the integrated loop, it can be easily attached to a backpack, bicycle or other objects. In terms of battery management, we still see room for improvement, but the JBL sound makes up for it with bass and volume across the board - and that's what ultimately matters with a JBL speaker.

JBL GO 3 Bluetooth speaker in the test check - design, features and sound

With the Go 3 Bluetooth speaker, JBL has presented a successor to the iconic Go 2 after about three years. The changed design catches the eye at first glance. JBL Go 3 is a bit bigger, more colorful and has an almost completely rubberized housing surface. This may seem a bit "cheaper" than its predecessor, but it protects better if the speaker falls to the ground. It is therefore tougher, just like its users, who include many athletes and outdoor friends.

Checking out the JBL Go 3 – the features of the Bluetooth speaker

Compared to the JBL Go 2, version 3 no longer has an audio line-in input. But that's not bad, because it's not needed for music. JBL GO 3 now offers a USB-C interface and the current Bluetooth version 5.1 (status: 07/2021). This means that users no longer have to take an outdated micro-USB cable with them when they travel. The interface cover of the previous version with a rubber strap is also passé in the current model. This is good because sealing tabs wear out over time. With the JBL GO 3, on the other hand, if the device is dropped in the pool or bath, audio fans don't have to worry about whether the tab was properly attached. Thanks to IP67, the device is dust-proof and can also take on shorter dives of 30 minutes and up to one meter deep.

The battery life is okay at five hours. What is less good is that there is only a small illuminated LED, which starts flashing as soon as the battery level is nearing the end. We would have wished for an indicator that provided information about the current battery level. Unfortunately, there is no smartphone  that could solve the problem either. The device is charged via a current USB-C interface. Unfortunately, the JBL GO 3 Bluetooth speaker cannot be used to listen to music while charging.

Checking out the JBL GO 3 – the sound of the mini Bluetooth speaker

The larger dimensions compared to the JBL GO 2 quickly make it clear: larger drivers work inside the JBL GO3 Bluetooth speaker than in the previous model. This mainly benefits the bass. Of course, the sound does not come close to that of a JBL Flip 5, which would not be possible simply because of the overall size and components, but buyers should be pleasantly surprised, because the sound that comes out of the JBL GO 3 is convincing for an ultra-compact device Bluetooth box. The sound is emitted laterally. Users should therefore always place the JBL GO 3 upright and not lying down. Distortions occur if the speaker is placed on its side, especially at high volumes.

The output power of the tiny sound is 4.2 watts. For comparison: the predecessor JBL GO2 offers an output of 3 watts. This means that the battery is used more efficiently for the same operating time of around five hours. The frequency response ranges from 110 Hz to 20 kHz. For comparison: JBL GO 2 has a frequency response of 180 Hz to 20 kHz. The lower the first number, the better the bass. So if you like listening to bass-heavy music, you should definitely grab the JBL GO 3.

Overall, the JBL GO 3 sounds surprisingly good, which more than makes up for the shortcomings mentioned above.

JBL GO 3 Bluetooth speaker in the test check - special features and functions

Does JBL GO 3 offer special features despite its small dimensions? To all cases. The JBL mini Bluetooth speaker is available in a total of 8 color variations: from white to red to a camouflage look. The beautiful street fashion look makes the small sound companion an eye-catcher everywhere.

The second special feature is of course the typical JBL sound. Mockers claim that JBL stands for "Just Bass & Loud". The Harman Kardon subsidiary has definitely managed to create a recognizable "sound signature" with its JBL brand

Predecessor JBL GO 2 - the cheap alternative to the speaker JBL GO 3

The predecessor JBL GO 2 already enjoyed cult status. The device is still commercially available and has an audio input as a special feature. However, JBL GO2 only offers Bluetooth 4.1 compared to JBL GO 3. The successor already has Bluetooth 5.1. From version Bluetooth 4.2, a higher data throughput is possible in low energy mode, which can have a positive effect on the audio quality. In terms of volume, the JBL GO 2 cannot keep up with its big brother and only offers 3 watts.
