Review Samsung Galaxy S9

The Galaxy S9 Plus is Samsung's mobile phone with the most advanced technical specifications and the most modern among the South Korean company's technologies. Officially launched in March 2018, the smartphone stands out for its dual camera and variable aperture system.

Among the specifications is the powerful Snapdragon 845 processor and 6 GB RAM. The smartphone can be purchased in online stores for values in the range of €750, depending on the offer of the day. Learn about the ins and outs of Samsung's premium phone below.

Positive aspects of the Galaxy S9 Plus

1. Quad HD+ display
Samsung usually doesn't disappoint when it comes to display, and that was no different with the Galaxy S9 Plus. At 6.2 inches, the screen has a QuadHD + resolution (2960 x 1440 pixels) and the panel is even Super AMOLED, known for optimal contrast and more vivid colors. Our review proved: the experience was great.

2. Camera with variable aperture
In addition to the arrival of the dual rear camera system, the Galaxy S9 Plus brought another advanced technology developed by the brand: variable aperture. With the new system, the unit automatically adjusts the aperture between f/1.5 and f/2.4 apertures, selecting the best mode for each type of lighting – with the exception of the secondary camera with a lens fixed at f/ 2,4. The two rear sensors have 12 megapixel resolution.

3. Advanced technical sheet
The Galaxy S9 Plus uses what is most advanced in terms of hardware today. Equipped with the Snapdragon 845 (octa-core up to 2.8 GHz), the smartphone is capable of running the heaviest applications on the Play Store smoothly and without hindrance. The device also has 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. Performance, it's worth remembering, was a positive point in our review.

Several Minus aspects of the Galaxy S9 Plus

1. Facial recognition below Apple
The Galaxy S9 Plus has a good facial recognition system, but it is still inferior to Face ID, Apple's current biometric sensor. As found during our tests, the system worked fine most of the time, but it failed in excessively lit environments, such as times under direct sunlight. In addition, in tests conducted by Forbes with the Galaxy S9, the iPhone came out on top when compared to other Android phones.

2. Front camera is not surprising
At 8-megapixels with an f/1.7 aperture, the Galaxy S9's front-facing camera is good, but it shouldn't produce amazing results. The device took good selfies in the traditional format, but disappointed in images with a blurred background. The software fails to recognize the contour of the body, making the experience below the competition.

3. Little realism in AR Emojis
In response to Apple's Animojis and Memojis, Samsung has created its own system of animated figures: AR Emojis. With the software, it is possible to register the user's face in 3D and transform the image into personalized emojis.

The problem is that the result is not superior to what is seen in iPhones, which use TrueDepth sensors for the function.
